Properly Dressed

Historically accurate practical clothing for re-enactors in the 16th and 17th century. Soldier’s and civilian clothing for English Civil War and Tudor re-enactment periods. Authentic patterns from well researched sources, made with care to be long lasting.

Current Waiting Times

Paper and pdf patterns can be delivered within 2 to 3 weeks from payment.

For clothing, due to the number of orders that I currently have, I am operating a long waiting list. I will not take deposits and cannot provide estimates of delivery times. When your enquiry gets to the top of the list I will contact you and, if you still want the item, I will take a deposit and provide a delivery date.

Waiting list length around 2 years currently (updated spring 2023).

Taking your measurements

For made to measure clothing and patterns it is important that we have the correct measurements. A friend can help you to take these as follows:

Use a reliable tape measure, not one that has stretched, frayed, been chewed by the cat or came out of a cracker!

Ask your friend to take the measurements. If you bend down to see the tape, you won’t get the right value.

Measure your actual body size - do not add extra space for comfort as that is done in the pattern making. If you allow extra space the clothes will be too large.

Follow the diagram below taking care to measure around the fullest part of the chest and hips, and the natural waist (for men this is at the bottom rib around elbow height). Height is best measured standing against a door frame and marking the top of the head.
